LIFE - Hello 2019!
Have you made New Year’s resolutions for the upcoming year or years passed? I know I have made tons of New Year’s resolutions over the years. But I caught myself in making very general goals that don’t seem to realistic or to ambitious enough. So instead of making my list about habit changes or improvements I figured that this year I would set myself some goals for things I want to do this year, places I want to visit and so on.
1. I want to take photos of a fox in the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen
This one may seem a little silly, but ever since mid September when I started to follow a photography course in my home town I have had this on my mind. It was starting from September when I really learned how to make the most of my photos instead of doing everything on the non flash mode (which I was very guilty off). Since I live in a pretty green neighborhood with a lot of forests surrounding it I have seen multiple foxes. I don’t know what it is about them but I find them so beautiful.
Here in Holland we have this big area of dunes and a sizable forest which is called the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen. In here there is an area where foxes regularly show themselves. These foxes live in the wild but are not as scared of humans as they are very much used to humans.
Now since September, I have made two visits to the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen to stake out at the fox area in the hopes that I could take some photographs if one would show up. The only chance I have had is this photo I have posted above. This fox was very shy. Now this seems natural but so many photographers have told me that foxes there are very tame and that seeing one is not difficult at all. So the urge to go again has definitely made this a big goal for the year to come.
In hindsight I was able to take a photograph of a fox in a Wildpark when I visited Anholter Schweiz this month (see the photo below), but I don’t know, it’s not the same ;)
2. I want to give my drawing to the King and Queen of the Netherlands on Kings day
When it became known that Kings day would be celebrated near me this year I thought it would be a great chance to make a drawing for their majesties and to give it to them. I had started a drawing of their 3 daughters as a gift two months ago.
It would be amazing to see them in real life. I have actually never seen a royal in real life before. But I don’t just want to stand there in line to just give a hand or to just ask for a photograph. I think it would be fun to give them something I created, which I hope they will love. I have no idea if this one will work out, but you’ll never know until you try right?
3. I want to visit the Hallerbos in Belgium
Another thing I would love to see this year is the amazing Hallerbos when the bluebells are in bloom! I have seen so many photographs of forests in England that are filled with these gorgeous wild flowers but there is nothing like that in the Netherlands so Belgium is the closest possibility!
4. I want to take advantage of the nicer weather
Don’t get me wrong but, it is cold and dreary as I write this and all I want to do is to take out my camera and to go out and take photos. However due to the grey clouds and the lack of light it is nearly impossible to take a photo that is not grainy. After following the photography course I talked about, which just ended, I am so motivated to put my new learned knowledge to practice that being stuck inside just feels like punishment. So as soon as there is more light and when it gets more appealing to be outside I will take full advantage of it!
5. I want to travel!
We were blessed with a beautiful vacation to Africa last year and to some lovely weekends away. We look forward to map out our next journey though which will likely be somewhere in the spring or in the autumn. Either way I am really excited even though I don’t really know our destination yet, travelling with my boyfriend is always a journey of laughter and fun so honestly I do not really mind the destination.
So I think I'll leave it at that for now. I have a few more ideas of things I want to do this year but if I manage to do only some of these I will be truelly grateful. I think the message for myself is to go out a lot more, to be creative and to broaden my horizon.
Do you have goals and wishes you want to achieve in 2019?
