What I Read - Bookworm Favorites - Giovanna Fletcher
Updated: Apr 28, 2019
If it wasn't obvious yet, I am a self-diagnosed bookworm, I just love reading books! I love being transported in the stories I read and that is why I took on the 4 books a month reading challenge this year.
In light of that challenge a huge bonus is that I come across the work of multiple authors and really find what my favorite kind of stories are. Which authors speak to me and which authors have that writing style I resignate with the most.
In the world of fiction I have loved and admired the work of Giovanna Fletcher. Giovanna is a author, mother, blogger and actress and married to singer Tom Fletcher (who remembers his epic wedding speech?).
Giovanna's debut novel was Billy & Me, which tells the tale of Sophie May who we find when she is trying to figure out who she is.
She is stuck in her home town/village of Rosefont Hill due to her secret. A secret she has been hiding remarkably well and a secret that has caused her to give up her dreams to travel and to go to university. Sophie lives with her mother and takes up a job in the local tea shop.
But then Sophie unexpectedly meets the gorgeous Billy Buskin - a famous actor with ambitions to make it to the top. As they begin to grow closer, Sophie finds herself whisked away from the comfort of her life into Billy's glamorous - but ruthless - world.
After years of shying away from attention, can Sophie handle the constant scrutiny that comes with being with Billy? How much is she prepared to give up along the way? And is their love strong enough to keep them together against the odds?
I loved this book, I finished the entire thing in one day. This book is a nod to the dream I think we all may have had when we had a celebrity crush and how that may resignate if that dream was actually real life. The character of Sophie is really lovable and relatable and it is so interesting to read how she copes in the frivilous world of fame and all of the things that come into dating a famous and attractive star such as Billy. A part of me could not help but wonder if any of the situations mentioned in the book were relatable for Kate and William. This book was a absolute joy to read and made me purchase more books written by Giovanna.
Although a hugely satisfying read, Billy and me ended with the possibility to venture back into the world of Sophie and Billy as there was a lot of story still untold. I rejoiced with excitement when I found out that there was a sequel (Christmas with Billy & Me) and another book to tell their story and ordered this book straight away. Thanks to the delivery being really quick I was able to enjoy this book the day after I read the first (and second) book.
The next much-anticipated romantic chapter in Billy and Sophie's love story from bestselling author Giovanna Fletcher.Sophie's got used to being the girlfriend of Billy Buskin, the biggest movie star in the world. Sort of. But when she and Billy take a trip to visit his family in Los Angeles, she quickly discovers she's totally unprepared for the chaos of Hollywood, the paparazzi and Billy's controlling mother. And when Billy extends his stay in LA, leaving Sophie to fly home to Rosefont Hill alone, it seems there's more than just miles between them. Now Sophie must decide if they can overcome their differences for good. Because not every love story lasts the distance . .
A dangerous thing with sequals can often be that the story is not what the reader might have imagined and therefore it could consiquently turn out to be a let down. Luckily with 'Always with love' this is definitely not the case in my opinion. This book touches upon the problem Billy and Sophie face when he wants to further his acting career whilst she has her own career to consider in Rosefont Hill. As Billy's job includes a lot of traveling it could mean that they would be seperated for long terms of time if a project takes him to the otherside of the world so to speak. This book shows how they navigate those realistic issues in order to stay together and if that in the end is something they can work out. It leaves the reader with a satisfying end whilst it also leaves enough room for a future book if Giovanna plans to pick their story up again in the future. This is a great series, you really fall in love with Giovanna's characters as they are so well written.
I have read 'You're the one that I want' and 'Somekind of Wonderful'next and loved both of those books. The last fiction book I had yet to read is 'Dream a little dream' and I have to say that I absolutely loved it. This book left me hungry to read whenever I couldn't and I was gutted when I finished the last page, hungry for more.
'Sarah is doing just fine. Sure she's been single for the last five years, and has to spend an uncomfortable amount of time around her ex-boyfriend, his perfect new girlfriend and all their mutual friends. And yes, her job as a PA to one of the most disgusting men in London is mind-numbingly tedious and her career is a constant disappointment to her mother. But it's really okay. She's happy (ish).
But it's not surprising that when Sarah starts dreaming about a handsome stranger, she begins to look forward to falling asleep every night. Reality isn't nearly as exciting. That is until her dream-stranger makes an unexpected real-life appearance, leaving Sarah questioning everything she thought she wanted.
Because no one ever really finds the person of their dreams... do they?'
I was convinced that Billy and Me was my favorite book of Giovanna's but I may have to confess that after reading this book, the number one has to be this one. Sarah is just a hillarious and relatable character with the most crazy dreams ever. She is in a lively colorful group of friends who have all met at university and remained close eversince. The relationships change a little and border around the awkward mark when Sarah's boyfriend leaves her for 'Perfect Lexi' his new girlfriend. Although there is definitely some bitter feelings left towards her ex and his perfect new girlfriend, the group of friends share a beautiful bond and leave you with laughs and tears multiple times.
Sarah's dreams are bonkers and it is funny that you see her react to the crazy situations she finds herself in when some of her dreams are appearing to become reality. The only one who knows about Sarah's nightly adventures besides herself is her best friend and roommate Carly who takes the most of the opportunities to mock Sarah about some of the more adventurous dreams she's had. It is beautiful though that when the man of Sarah's dreams appears in reality (being quite different to the man Sarah envisioned in her dreams) that Carly is the one that nudges Sarah to explore the possibilities she can have in order for her to drop the dream man illusion so that she eventually sees that the real man in front of her is actually the perfect man for her.
I have loved this book thoroughly and highly recommend you to pick up one of Giovanna's books for yourself to see if you enjoy her work as much as I have.
